Custom Jean Jacket

August 9, 2019

Wanting to create your own custom jean jacket using paint? It’s super easy!

What you will need:
-acrylic paint & brushes
-painter’s tape
-jean jacket
-fabric medium ( this helps the paint adhere to the fabric)

STEP 1 - CANVAS

map out your “canvas” using the painter’s tape. Tape it down as good as you can so when you paint, none of it gets under the tape. This will give you a clean cut edge.

STEP 2 - BASE COAT

Mix the paint with the fabric medium and paint a layer or two of white onto your fabric. This helps if you are wanting to use colors like yellow/orange. The white base will help the future colors pop more.

STEP 3 - MAP OUT YOUR DESIGN

After the white base dries, using a black pen, roughly map out your design. I used a thin artist pen so that I could easily mask over it with the paint.

STEP 4 - TIME TO PAINT!

Mixing the fabric medium with your paint colors, start painting your design onto the fabric!

STEP 5 - HEAT

After you let your fabric dry for at least 24 hours, heat set it before washing. The easiest option is to just throw them in the dryer. You can iron as well if that’s easier.

Washing tip:
- I recommend washing by hand, and inside out if you can. The more gentle you are the better.
